6 Tips for Having a Fabulous 4th

Posted by

Our Independence Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in America. From back yard BBQ’s to fancy firework shows, the 4th of July is a time enjoyed by everyone. To help make your day comfortable, relaxing and without mishap, I’ve put together 6 tips to make your 4th the best yet!

Sunscreen

1. Protect Your Skin

A sunburn can not only ruin your day, it can be painful and detrimental to your health. If you’re planning to have a carefree day that doesn’t end up with you sitting inside missing out on the festivities, make sure you bring your SPF. Read the instructions on your choice of sunscreen to make sure you’re getting the full benefits.

2.  Break Out the Grill

Think of some new recipes this summer to impress your guests, or keep it original with some traditional burgers and brats. Whether you’re entertaining a large group, or just feeding the family, being the grill master doesn’t have to keep you away from the party:

  • Provide some outside seating – Allow your family and friends to sit outside with you as you prepare their yummy meal.
  • Foods such as kabobs can be pre-prepared easily, thrown on the grill and ready to eat in no time with little monitoring. Choose your favorite meats, veggies and even fruits to throw on skewers for some fast and easy grilling.

3. Unplug

Smart phones and tablets have become a part of our daily lives. We always have them close at hand and are constantly using them for various activities. This 4th I suggest you unplug. Leave your distracting electronics in a safe place and truly enjoy what’s going on around you. Instead of texting, internet gaming, or browsing the web, start up a conversation with your family or friends, set up a lawn game, and enjoy the merriment.

4. Keep Your Furry Friends in a Safe, Quiet, Comfortable Place

On the 4th of July more dogs run away than on any other day of the year. The sights, smells and sounds of fireworks can be entirely overwhelming to mans best friend. This year show Fido that you are just as dedicated to him/her as they are to you by setting up a space where your dog can comfortably feel secure during all the commotion. Maybe throw in a bone or two to show some appreciation for your pet’s patience.

5. Relax In Your Hot Tub

After the festivities have subsided its time to relax. Tell your friends to throw on their suits or wait until they’ve left to have some down time. If you’re not too stuffed  from dinner, have dessert in the tub. Try out fruit kabobs or a festive parfait to end your night perfectly. Always remember hot tub use is not recommended if you are consuming alcoholic beverages as it can accelerate dehydration. We have some great ideas for mocktail beverages in our “Top 6 Summer Cocktails & Recipes” blog article.

6. Cool Off

If it’s been an exceptionally hot day you can cool off in your hot tub buy turning the temperature down to 85 F or less. You can even make it simple and just turn the heater off. With the cover off and the jets running, your water temperature will quickly drop.
